깃羽으로 그리는 아리랑
사랑하는 내 주변의 착한 사람들의 이야기를 들을 때마다 같이 위로해줄 그림이 필요했다.
스스로 전해진 아픈 마음을 치유할 무목적인 깃羽 긋는 행위가 필요했던 것이다.
'깃羽 아리랑'은 삶을 치유하는 스스로의 주술적 행위이다. 아픈 마음의 위로가 때로는 침묵으로... 기다림으로... 깃羽을 선묘함으로써 가슴으로 연주된다. 깃은 심장을 감싸 안으며, 통증을 재우고, 이른 아침 작은 새들의 지저귐으로 숨 쉬며 살아 박동한다! ‘아리랑 아리랑 아라리요, 아리랑 고개로 넘어간다...’
Painting Arirang with Feathers
Every time I hear about stories of kind people that I know and love, I needed paintings that can console us. To heal the wounded mind delivered to ourselves, the act of objectless drawing of feathers was required. ‘Feather Arirang’ is a magical action that heals lives in itself. The relief of a pained mind at times comes through silence… waiting… drawing of feathers and plays in our hearts. Feather embraces the heart, puts pain to sleep, and breathes and pulsates through the songs of small birds in the early morning! 'Arirang Arirang Arariyo, we are climbing over the Arirang Pass…’
조 미 영 CHO, MI YOUNG 趙 美 英
홍익대학교 동양화과와 동대학원을 졸업한 조미영은 덕원갤러리(1999), 김옥길기념관(2003), 한전프라자갤러리(2005), 게이트갤러리(2008), 갤러리나비(2010), 그림집(2011)등 열두 번의 개인전과 다수의 기획전 그룹전을 가졌다. 작가는 전통 바탕 재료 위에 가는 선묘로 깃羽을 그려 정제 시키는 과정을 갖는다. 그가 말하고자 혹은 표현하고자 하는 것에서의 본질을 끌어내어 가장 간소하게 절제하는 표현들을 선으로 그려나간다. 그의 작업은 미묘한 압력의 차이나 흐름에 의한 공기 사이를 자유롭게 날아가는 '깃털'에서 생명의 본질을 찾고 있다. 깃털, 알과 같이 조미영화 된 소재를 결합시켜 뛰어난 색채감과 공간감 등의 구성으로 평면 위에 의식의 서사 구조를 만들어 낸다. 현재 홍익대학교 미술교육원과 경기대학교에 출강 중이다.
MI YOUNG CHO
After graduating from Hongik University with both a BFA and MFA in Oriental Painting, Mi Young Cho has held 12 solo exhibitions in Deukwon Gallery(1999), Kimokkil Memorial Center(2003), Hanjun Plaza Gallery(2005), Gate Gallery(2008) ,Gallery NAVEE(2010), Greemzip(2011) and numerous group exhibitions. In her works, the artist takes on the process of refinement with Korean traditional material. She draws out the essence of what she is trying to say or express and brings out the utmost ｅxpression of refinement and exquisiteness through lines. The artist searches for the nature of life through painting ‘feathers’ that fly freely between the air, which is created by subtle difference in pressure or flow. Using feathers or eggs, subjects that have become synonymous with Mi Young Cho, and the theme of ‘Arirang’, the most famous Korean traditional song, the artist fuses together such symbolism to make a description of conscious thoughts about life through the construction of outstanding colors and spatial sense. She is currently teaching at Hongik University Institute of Fine Arts and Design Education, and Kyonggi University.
